Vintage Friday

A few weeks ago I was in an antique mall with my sister Tracy. She spotted this book in a closet full of old books. It looked like a fun read. When she went to buy it, she thought is was too much for the condition it was in and decided against it. I could tell she really wanted it though. We searched on line to see if we could find one at a better price, maybe even new. We didn't have any luck. So a few weeks later I went back to buy the book for her birthday. At first I couldn't find it and I was getting upset, thinking I waited too long before going back. Finally I spotted it! It sat at my house a few days then I decided I should read it before I gave it to her. I am so glad I did. The only word I can think of is delightful. This book was so much fun to read. It is a child's book about children and the things they do. I enjoyed it so much. (I am going to ask Tracy to write her opinion about it .) I have already started looking for other books in the series.

Vintage Friday

Today's Vintage Friday apron came from an antique store I visited a few weeks ago. I bought this apron to use in a bowl I was filling with vintage kitchen items for a fund raiser a friend is holding this weekend. I think this is my favorite apron so far. It was hard to give it up but I kept telling myself I bought it for Prisilla. I also bought several more aprons that I gave away with invitations for my birthday lunch. I don't have a large collection of aprons but I may start looking for them more often. I may also start using the ones I have.

Making Plans

I've started making the plans for my 50th Birthday party. I am having it on June 2, in my backyard. This party is for my girlfriends from my Bible Study group. We normally meet on Tuesdays so it will work out great. I am having a picnic theme, but I want it to be very girly.
I am making hats like I see in the artsy blogs and decorating with garlands and lots of flowers. I want to serve chicken salad and fresh fruit. I think we will have iced tea and lemonade to drink. Apple pie and brownies for dessert as served at all good picnics. I have been buying vintage aprons to use as part of the invitations. I still have to work out the actual card. And I want to bake lemon cookies as favors. I still have to figure out what to put on the labels for the cookies. I love planning parties, picking the foods and making all the decorations. I haven't had a party in a very long time, and it has been 10 years since I have any sort of party for my birthday. I am really looking forward to each step on my journey to 50.

Wednesdays Wonderful Woman

Today's wonderful woman is my oldest sister Cheyrl. She has worn many hats over the years, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, friend and employee. This Sunday she will add another hat to her collection: College graduate. It has taken her a long time but she has finally succeeded in earning her degree. Cheyrl has been through a lot of valleys recently, more than most women. She has remained faithful and trusting in God to bring her through. She will be facing another valley next month but I am confindant she will travel through this one under our Heavenly Father's protection. Life does not always turn out the way we want, but it is important to make the most of each day. I believe Cheyrl tries to do just that.

Writing on the Mirror

I showed Kylie how she can write on the mirror with the dry erase marker.
This is her message. Translated: I love you only if you listen to Oma.

Vintage Friday

I found this card at an antique shop a few weeks ago.
I think it is so sweet. What a good friend.
